The National Assembly is in mourning following the death of Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away early Sunday morning, March 29, 2026. The 62-year-old legislator died at approximately 1:20 a.m. while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
A Legacy of Legislative Service
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula officially announced the demise of the three-term MP, describing him as a “diligent and committed” leader. Kiaraho was first elected to represent Ol Kalou Constituency in the 2013 General Election and successfully defended his seat in the subsequent 2017 and 2022 polls.
At the time of his death, Kiaraho was a vital member of two key parliamentary bodies:
- Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure: Where he utilized his professional background to oversee national projects.
- Procedure and House Rules Committee: Contributing to the internal governance and legislative processes of the House.
Professional Background in Architecture
Before entering the political arena, Kiaraho established himself as a distinguished architect. An alumnus of Alliance High School, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Nairobi.
As the Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, he spearheaded numerous infrastructure and built-environment projects. His professional expertise was often evident in his parliamentary contributions, particularly regarding regional transport infrastructure—a field the user has been monitoring closely, including recent developments at the Noida International Airport and the SGR extensions in Kenya.
Funeral Preparations and Tributes
Speaker Wetangula has moved swiftly to form a Funeral Preparation Committee to coordinate with the family for a befitting send-off. The committee is led by:
- Hon. Kwenya Thuku (MP, Kinangop) – Chairperson
- Hon. Faith Gitau (MP, Nyandarua) – Vice-Chairperson
- Seven other Members of Parliament.
Kiaraho’s death marks a significant loss for the people of Nyandarua County and the architectural fraternity in Kenya. He is remembered for his technical approach to policy and his steadfast representation of his constituents for over a decade.
Impact on Parliamentary Business
The MP’s passing creates a vacancy in the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat, which will eventually necessitate a by-election. In the immediate term, his absence will be felt in the Transport Committee, which is currently navigating critical discussions on the Rironi-Mau Summit highway and the SGR extension to Malaba, projects recently highlighted in President Ruto’s bilateral talks with China.
