AFC Leopards bolstered their pursuit of the SportPesa League title by defeating Murang’a Seal 2-0 in one of the three Round 27 fixtures held on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium. The victory moves the “Ingwe” side to within two points of league leaders Gor Mahia, intensifying the race for the championship as the season enters its final stretch.+1

Following a scoreless first half that saw both sides struggle to convert possession into clear-cut opportunities, AFC Leopards showcased their resolve after the interval. Ronald Sichenje broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, calmly slotting home after a brilliant piece of hold-up play by Samuel Ssenyonjo.

Murang’a Seal were handed a golden opportunity to equalize in the 65th minute after being awarded a penalty, but Leopards’ goalkeeper James Ssetuba produced a stunning save to deny Joe Waithira from the spot. Hassan Beja eventually secured the victory for the visitors in the 83rd minute, meeting a perfect cross from Kinyanjui with an acrobatic finish to seal the three points.+1

Meanwhile, Shabana FC’s recent struggles continued as they endured a heavy 3-0 loss to Nairobi United at the Kasarani Annex Stadium. Nairobi United, popularly known as “Naibois,” dominated the first half with goals from Duncan Odhiambo and Michael Karamor, heading into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Ugandan international Mustapha Kizza added a third goal in the final moments of the match to complete the double over the “Glamour Boys” this season.+1

In another Sunday fixture, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) registered a vital 1-0 away victory over Bidco United at the Ruringu Stadium. The narrow win helps the bankers maintain their position in the top half of the table while further complicating Bidco United’s battle to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

Following the weekend results, Gor Mahia remains at the summit of the standings with 57 points from 26 matches. Despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, the record champions maintain a two-point lead over AFC Leopards, who have played one additional game.

Kakamega Homeboyz climbed to third place with 45 points after a 3-0 win over Mathare United, trailing Leopards by 10 points. Defending champions Police FC follow closely in fourth with 43 points, tied with Shabana FC, though Police hold a superior goal difference.+1

The league continues to witness a highly competitive run-in, with focus now shifting to the mid-week fixtures as teams battle for both the title and survival at the bottom of the log.
